More anti-marijuana propaganda. Anyway, the article says that the study has found some things, but why doesn't it list the author, and time of publication so that the science-minded geeks in wired could at least review it and see how well the study was conducted or whatever?
At least pot smokers don't get emphysema! I guess that's from all the carcinogen additives in cigarettes. I'd be interested in hearing more about the effects of smoking out of glass-I've heard that "1 joint =5 cigarettes" a million times before.
Vaporizing is the recommended method of marijuana intake for medical patients. Americans for Safe Access recommends it. It's a good alternative to the "smoking anything is bad so marijuana should stay illegal" argument.
Pot smokers don't get heart disease from pot either. How can these people claim that a joint is more dangerous than a ciggarette? I guess they just ignore emphesemia and heart disease, and instead focus on pot smokers cough. ig'nant.
Lily, I'm sure that you were just putting the subject line in there, but try to think about what you are saying before giving people just another crazy and completely incorrect reason to think that marijuana should be illegal. You are making this harder for the rest of us.
I'd say for the most part it's a pretty objective article. The lead says, "A single joint of marijuana obstructs the flow of air as much as smoking up to five tobacco cigarettes, but long-term pot use does not increase the risk of developing emphysema, new research suggests." So it's upfront that marijuana isn't as bad for your lungs as cigarettes.
Obviously, bringing any kind of smoke into your lungs is going to irritate them. But in a free society where it's legal to smoke tobacco, which kills thousands of people every year, it's absurd that marijuana, which is less harmful, is illegal.

I think its a pretty factual article, reporting on a paper to be published in a respected medical journal. As a chronic smoker, I am concerned about the health effects. It would be foolish to deny that there is a health risk involved in smoking marijuana.
Please tell me what part of the story you think is "crazy and completely incorrect".

Hi Lily; I don't know how long you have been smoking cigerettes, but believe me you want to quit NOW. As time goes by the tars will build up on the surface of your lungs, they will stiffen and no longer be capable of closing when you exhale, the air just sets there. Given enough time, you die. You are a nicotine "Junkie". Face it, your an addict. Nicotine addiction is just as bad, if not worse than herion. It's not easy, there is a silver bullet out there, when you find it quiting will be easier than you think, but harder than you might want to deal with. But you will never find it if you don't look. I'm afraid I haven't found it yet. They killed my Mother, they killed my Sister, you would think that would be incentive enough. I only wish it were.

Preachin' to the choir, sir. I quit cigarettes years ago. :)

I used to be a smoker as well, and it was hard quitting. So, I just smoked something else when I thought that I needed to smoke.
