I've noticed we've had a recent deluge of spambots posting links to some website, braindumpz or something, using links on text of certification exam numbers like 640-407 or similar. I just deleted three different thread posts consisting of these kinds of spam.

Do we need to update our new-user CAPTCHA or something? Is there anything we could do to raise the bar here? Or are we just s.o.l. and relegated to dealing with the posts?

TIA,
-cheez

On my list

I will work on fixing this. Until now we have been remarkably spam free on this platform. Thanks for being diligent, and I will make some time to get this corrected.

Thanks!

Got one

Today I actually saw a spammer on the site. They were able to make a forum post and a comment before I deleted the account.

To create an account here, you have to pass reCAPTCHA, one of the most widely used and secure CAPTCHA systems available, and you have to respond to an email. This is a pretty standard methodology, and is about as secure as I can make the process short of manual approval for each account. I am quite certain that without these checks in place we would be completely buried in thousands of spam posts a day, because thats the situation we were in before I switched to this platform. Even now, the logs show many rejected attempts.

That one spammer made it through somehow, but one is far short of what it could be. Even if we deleted an average of one spammer a month, I would consider ourselves as doing the best we can, considering how awful it was before.

As ever, if you see a spammer please report it to webmaster@dfwnorml.org and Ill take care of it.

No doubt- I fully understand

No doubt- I fully understand that it's already a pretty high bar. No worries, thanks again!
