Got this in an e-mail. I often find group e-mail lists to be a good source of marijuana news, events, and super-great ideas, like this one:
When talk about legalizing marijuana comes up many law enforcement officers suddenly become experts about a mythical "gateway" theory. "If you legalize marijuana, your kids will become junkie addicts," they falsely suggest.
When you see some Sheriff spewing out reefer madness, besides pointing out the error attach some moral condemnation to your rebuke by mentioning the deliberate deception being practiced. Debunk the gateway notion and then point out that the truth has been known for more than 12 years. Ask why the spokesperson is endorsing notions that were proved false in a Government study.
Here's one way to do it- The prestigious Institute Of Medicine (IOM) 1997 study on medical marijuana demolished the gateway theory with this devastating statement-
"Whereas the stepping stone hypothesis presumes a predominantly physiological component to drug progression, the gateway theory is a social theory. The latter does not suggest that the pharmacological qualities of marijuana make it a risk factor for progression to other drug use. Instead it is the legal status of marijuana that makes it a gateway drug." (See- IOM report at: http://www.nap.edu/readingroom/books/marimed/ch3.html)
The IOM is clearly saying that making marijuana illegal is the gateway.
When anybody speaks for the drug war attack their morality because there is nothing honorable, upright or just about drug prohibition. There is always some lie in the prohibitionist's message. After demolishing the fictions, condemn the spokesperson as a deliberate liar and cite a pertinent scripture to add real moral weight to your accusation.
PROVERBS 19: 9 The false witness will not be free from punishment, and he that launches forth mere lies will perish.
A lot of drug warriors seem to think they have "God on their side." It comes as a shock to find they are actually condemned by the Bible.
Adding a moral dimension to our opposition to the drug war, raises questions about whether drug prohibition is approved by God Almighty. These are questions the drug crusaders cannot honestly answer.
Exposing the immorality associated with drug prohibition will reduce support for the drug crusade among many people.
We need to remember that many civil rights battles were won by shaming prohibitionists to the point where they could no longer look the public in the eye with their racist nonsense. The KKK has lost power because the general public in the South considers them to be morally wrong.
We can do the same thing to drug prohibition.

I cant stand it when people use "God" to condemn marijuana use. I'am a proud christian who knows that all plants were created by the lord. If people cant except that tell them to read the first page of the bible...
True, all plants were created by the Lord, including ones like poison ivy, tobacco, and the dreaded 'sticker' plant- that most painful of thorny plants that I can't see for the life of me what use they serve.
We recently got into a discussion over on the DPFT list about Christianity and marijuana/drug use. Someone asked a really good question about how are we supposed to get past the argument that Christians aren't supposed to be under the influence of any mind-altering drug when Jesus comes back. But, people do misunderstand so the discussion was, as it always is everywhere, cut short by a moderator.
I wish there was a place where people could talk openly about the subject, because it's one that's pertinent to Christians who want to 'witness' to other Christians about the benefits of marijuana use and the lies our government tells us. It's also pertinent to non-Christians, who must tread softly because once we offend someone, that person will not listen to what we have to say after that, except for points he or she can use to tear our argument apart. When that happens, they have to fall back onto the stupid drug lies they've been told. They don't listen, they just argue with stupid points and nobody gets anywhere.
The anointing oils that Jesus used were cannabis. That may help.
God made pot didnt he?
This is a really interesting topic and a great argument for those really conservative right wingers who parade Jesus in front of their argument. Most of my family is like this....
HOWEVER - my Baptist pastor requires more information other than some old stoner like me telling him that Cannabis was in the anointing oils. See - the (generally speaking like the Southern Baptists as an example) Church Community doesn't teach the truth - they just simply omit that little factoid out of Sunday school. If I had some kind of "proof" - then I'd educate them :)
Do you have any more information - evidence of sorts? That would really make a wonderful article here - and - if you wrote one, I'd quote about it (and cite you as a source) on National NORML's site :)
Thanks!

I would like to preface this article with the sentiment that our greatest weapon against ignorance and prejudice is to educate ourselves. Read everything you can on a variety of subjects.
The answer lies in the unedited versions of the bible, The Hebrew texts. The Hebrew texts are the original bible.
Our old testament is an edited version of the Torah.
It is very interesting that we are having this discussion, and my next college class is World Mythology!
The ancient recipe for this anointing oil, recorded in the Old Testament book of Exodus (30: 22-23) included over nine pounds of flowering cannabis tops, Hebrew "kaneh-bosm" B, extracted into a hind (about 6.5 litres) of olive oil, along with a variety of other herbs and spices. The ancient chosen ones were literally drenched in this potent cannabis holy oil.
The Anointed Ones
Unlike the shamanistic priests and kings of earlier generations, Jesus did not follow the strict Old Testament taboos that limited the holy cannabis oils use to Yahweh's chosen few (Exodus 30:33), but broke tradition and began to liberally use it in both healing and initiation rites.
The Treasure of Light and the Mystery of the Five Trees
At the turn of the present century Professor GRS Mead summarized a German translation of a surviving Gnostic text, the "Second Book of Ieou". P The text describes Jesus bidding male and female disciples to join him so that he can reveal to them the great mystery of the Treasure of Light.
P One of the few that managed to survive the Catholic Church's editorial flames, without being hidden with the Nag Hamadi codexes.
In order to accomplish this, the candidates have to be initiated by three Baptisms: The Baptism of Water, the Baptism of Fire, and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, "and thereafter the Mystery of the Spiritual Chrism [anointing]."

There is a great bit of the bible that was edited for the benefit of the Catholic Church. The King James Version was edited once again for the benefit of the Protestant church. There are many religious texts that have been discovered in the past decades that should be read if we are to understand the actual lives of the people, and practices of the bible.
On a personal note, my grandfather spent his retirement years researching the Bible. He went to seminars that would translate portions of the Bible to the language of the time, and the practices of the people of the time.

Finally,
Jesus would not have banned any of Gods creations and gifts to mankind. Laws against plants are an artificial creation of man.
1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree,
in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life,
I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
