DFW Norml Interviews Tommy Chong

Tommy Chong: Half Chinese, Half Scotish/Irish Canadian slash naturalized American comedic genius.

Throughout his incredible career of directing and acting in award winning movies and television shows, selling out venues, winning a Grammy, and, most importantly, advocating for the reform of marijuana laws, he has remained honest, humble and noble in character. Generations have been entertained by his stoner portrayal in the classic Cheech & Chong and inspired by his confidence regarding consumption of the cannabis plant. As a chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, we have no doubt looked up to and respected his involvement with NORML for these many years. That being said, we are extremely happy to share the interview Mr. Chong provided at Hyenas Comedy Nightclub last weekend!

This year, Tommy and his wife Shelby have been touring the country providing laughs to their long-time fan base. Several of our members were very excited to see them live and one in particular, Carla Stewart, took the initiative to find contact information for his PR representative. Needless to say, Carla succeeded and DFW NORML was given an interview slot at his Dallas show! Outreach was done using Twitter and Carla coordinated a “Twitter Bomb” to initiate contact and help show Tommy that we were interested in meeting. With limited involvement from our members, the combined efforts exceeded our expectations and directly reached over 2,800 people in a 24 hour period. Imagine what we could do with a little more help!

Following that success, we were excited to see what “The Original Stoner” had to say. Not only was Tommy extremely candid in his remarks, his real-world experience in dealing with cannabis law displays a certain level of conviction and understanding that are unmatched by most. He has no qualms about speaking his mind or being very direct with his opinions. Both qualities we should all strive to obtain. DFW NORML would like to sincerely thank Mr. Chong for taking the time to sit down with Texas activists and helping to educate our citizens about the consequences involved with cannabis prohibition.

Herb’s the Word.
